Student visit to Ojo Caliente

HSR's involvement in the Cañada Alamosa Project has provided the opportunity to teach short field schools (averaging 10 days) to participants who sign up for the Prehistoric Pueblos of the Southwest sessions with Earthwatch Institute. Participants have the opportunity to excavate in a prehistoric pueblo site and receive excellent training in field and laboratory techniques.

HSR also has a volunteer program that is organized on a case by case basis. Projects can involve fieldwork at sites like the Hembrillo Battlefield or excavation of the Oliver Lee House or laboratory work involving cataloging and organization of recovered artifacts. Other volunteer positions range from the site steward program to answering telephones or inputting data into a computer.

Lectures and tours for organizations or interested informal groups are consistently offered either by schedule or request. Lectures include a wide variety of archaeological, historical or environmental topics that have their origins in HSR projects. Tours have included a range of southern New Mexico experiences, always amplified by the presence of a knowledgeable tour guide familiar with the history and stories of the area.   Learn More....
